MODERN CITY

– The legacy of architectural modernism in Victoria. Previously on view in 2019 –

Architecture communicates a city’s relationship with the broader world. In the years following the Second World War, Victoria embraced the spreading ‘modernist’ architectural style. Victoria expressed modernism through a ‘Pacific coast’ version of the so-called ‘International Style’, as well as through a unique local idiom.

Visionaries

This exhibit looks to architects who dreamed of functional workplaces, shared urban spaces, and thoughtfully-designed homes, businesses, and shopping areas. Architects who designed Victoria, our ‘modern city’.
