MODERN CITY

– The legacy of architectural modernism in Victoria. Previously on view in 2019 –

The language of architecture in Victoria is an important means of expressing the global relationships cultivated by our city. The vocabulary of Modernism, which made its way around the world following the Second World War, is present in Victoria’s architecture through both the local idiom and the international style in its Pacific coast iterations. With appreciation and respect, this exhibit looks to the work of architectural practitioners who envisioned a future of shared urban spaces, functional places of work, and the thoughtfully designed homes, businesses, civic centres, and shopping areas of Victoria, our “modern city”. We thank the sponsors, designers, scholars, photographers, archivists, and architects, and proudly welcome the architectural exhibition Modern City: The Legacy of Architectural Modernism in Victoria.
