SUMMARY:An Artist in Chinatown
DESCRIPTION:“From 1976 until about 1990 I was part of the art community which grew up in Victoria’s Chinatown. A combination of the colourful streetscapes and the fascinating crew of creative people who made it their home provided me with great subject matter for my paintings and my writing in the Times-Colonist. I’ll share lots of pictures and stories to help you remember those wonderful days.” \nRobert Amos grew up in Toronto and discovered Victoria in 1975. His day job at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria merged nicely with the night-life in the studios of Fisgard Street. Since 1981 he has made it his goal to document Victoria\, beginning with our unique Chinatown. Documenting the architecture of our town in words and pictures he has published a dozen books on the subject. In recent years he has become the official biographer of artist E. J. Hughes. Amos was recently awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts by the University of Victoria. You can learn more about him at robertamos.com.

Stereophile magazine selected her Gershwin CD as “Recording of the Month\,” and her interpretation of Hollywood Piano Concertos won Germany’s coveted Deutsches Schauplatten Preis. Most recently her recorded traversal of the score to Carl Dreiser’s silent movie classic Master of the House (1925) may be heard on Criterion Collection DVD. \nSara Davis Buechner joined the faculty of Temple University’s Boyer College of Music and Dance in 2016\, after previously teaching at the Manhattan School of Music\, New York University and the University of British Columbia.
