SUMMARY:Baroque Trio Sonatas for Spring
DESCRIPTION:Harpsichordist extraordinaire\, Alexander Weimann\, is joined by violinists\, Chloe and Christi Meyers\, in a program of Baroque trio sonatas from the 17th and 18th centuries. Music for a spring afternoon that will uplift\, inspire and delight you.\n  \n\n  \nProgram TBA\n  \n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n \nChloe Meyers has been playing violin her whole life. She grew up playing in a string trio with her siblings and was frequently accompanied by her mother. That music was the second language in her early years solidified her career choice early on until in university\, Chloe became fascinated by the sound of the period instruments\, and changed from a career of “modern” violin\, to “baroque specialist”\, an about-face in the world of music! \nChloe has played with many different ensembles and orchestras all over Canada and the US and in many varied positions\, most often now as leader or concertmaster. She is concertmaster of the Pacific Baroque Orchestra in Vancouver\, the affiliate group of Early Music Vancouver and principal\nsecond of the Seattle Bach Festival Orchestra in Seattle. \nChloe’s current passion is teaching – she is on faculty at both UBC and UVic\, and an integral part of the BOMP (Baroque Orchestra Mentorship Program) that exposes the next generation of players and singers to the art of early music performance practice.\n  \n\n \nThe internationally renowned keyboard artist Alexander Weimann has spent his life enveloped by the therapeutic power and beauty of making music. \nAlex grew up in Munich. At age three he became fascinated by the intense magic of the church organ. He started piano at six\, formal organ lessons at 12 and harpsichord at university (along with theatre theory\, medieval Latin and jazz piano.) \nToday he is in huge demand as a director\, soloist and chamber player\, traveling the world with leading North American and European ensembles. He is Artistic Director of the Pacific Baroque Orchestra in Vancouver and has appeared on more than 100 recordings\, including the Juno-award-winning album “Prima Donna” with Karina Gauvin and Arion Baroque orchestra. Alex offers master classes at European and North American universities and is on faculty at the University of British Columbia. \nMore than anything\, he loves to improvise – something\, he says\, humans do all the time\, just by making conversation.\n  \n\n \nChristi Meyers is an accomplished modern and baroque violinist who has been an active part of Victoria’s music scene since 2001. She was Assistant Concertmaster of the Victoria Symphony for 24 years and continues to perform with Victoria Baroque\, Pacific Baroque Orchestra\, Seattle Bach Festival Orchestra\, Early Music Vancouver\, and as the first violinist of the Odyssey String Quartet. \nChristi has toured internationally and played with artists from Yo-Yo Ma to Pavarotti. A dedicatededucator\, she has been on faculty at UVic\, maintains a small studio of young violinists\, and is the Artistic Director of the Esquimalt based chamber music series\, Township Classics. Seeking to use her music skills more purposefully in her midlife\, she is currently in the midst of Music Therapy degree studies at Capilano University in North Vancouver.
