SUMMARY:Simon Farintosh\, guitar

Named one of CBC’s “30 Under 30 Classical Musicians” in 2023\, he has distinguished himself through unconventional programming that integrates the classical guitar with contemporary forms such as ambient electronica. This innovative approach is best highlighted by his multi-volume series\, Aphex Twin for Guitar—a project that reimagines the intricate works of electronic legend Richard D. James for the nylon string. By successfully bridging these seemingly disparate musical worlds\, Simon has reached a vast global audience\, amassing over 3 million streams on Spotify to date. \nThese arrangements have earned significant praise from both classical and electronic music circles. Marc Weidenbaum\, founder of Disquiet and author of the 33 1/3 book on Aphex Twin\, lauded the project for its ability to translate mechanical precision into a “living\, breathing human element\,” creating a “shimmering\, 4-dimensional soundworld” that transcends the boundaries of acoustic and electronic music. Reviewing the same project\, Bradford Werner of This is Classical Guitar praised Simon’s “warm\, sensitive sound and strong rhythmic delivery\,” noting that these “touching and intricate works showcase his refined virtuosity and a sophisticated command of the instrument’s tonal possibilities.” \nThis evocative quality reached a new peak with the 2023 release of his debut studio album\, Noctuary\, a set of brooding vignettes composed specifically for the solo eight-string guitar. Critics at Sinusoidal Music highlighted the profound emotional impact of the collection\, remarking: “It is heart-warming\, yet tells of a sadness inside you that can be reached without words. Simply gorgeous.” In addition to his solo output\, Simon was recently featured on the Navona Records album Filamentos\, performing the works of Dominican-Canadian composer Liova Bueno. \nSimon’s academic journey began at the University of Victoria under the revered pedagogue Dr. Alexander Dunn. He subsequently earned a Master’s Degree at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2020\, where he was a student and teaching assistant to Rene Izquierdo\, a renowned Cuban virtuoso. Currently\, Simon is finishing a Doctorate of Musical Arts at the University of Toronto under the tutelage of Jorge Caballero and Dr. Jeffrey McFadden. His doctoral research is dedicated to devising a comprehensive sight-reading curriculum for undergraduate guitar students. \nA decorated performer\, Simon won 1st Prize at the 2018 Northwest Guitar Festival and has been a finalist or prizewinner in the Canadian National Music Festival\, the GuitarLab International Competition\, and the Twisted Spruce Guitar Competition. As a composer\, he received First Prize in the 2022 Ottawa Guitar Society Composition Competition for his piece\, Distant Light\, published by Les Productions d’Oz. \nBeyond the stage\, Simon leads the guitar department at the University of Victoria and operates ReVamp Guitar Academy. As President of the Victoria Guitar Society and founder of Coastline Concerts\, he is a leading arts advocate; in 2026\, he served as Festival Director for the Northwest Guitar Festival\, marking the event’s first return to Canada in decades. \nSimon performs on a 2025 double-top guitar by Martin Blackwell and a 2021 eight-string guitar by Jeff Sigurdson.

SUMMARY:Octet Victoria
DESCRIPTION:A program of both well-known and less familiar Christmas music from Victoria’s popular professional octet. Join us to celebrate the Christmas season at Wentworth Villa!\n  \n\n  \nProgram TBA\n  \n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n \nOctet Victoria is a fully professional group of eight singers who are committed to creating excellent choral music here in Victoria. Founded in 2022 by Char Hodgkins\, Octet Victoria’s members are highly skilled musicians with varied backgrounds; some of our members have a lifetime of choral experience\, while others are soloists or dedicated teachers. Having a mixed choir of eight different voices allows a large amount of flexibility for repertoire\, and Octet Victoria has explored choral music from all time periods spanning Renaissance to modern day. SUMMARY:Eve Egoyan\, Piano
DESCRIPTION:Piano Next: Extending the piano in response to the pianist’s touch. \nEve Egoyan‘s works for augmented and acoustic piano delve into the space between what a piano can do and what she has always wished it could do. At their core is the live acoustic sound of the piano\, but through the delicate intervention of technology and recorded sounds\, Eve tests (and teases) the edges of that sound\, pushing it beyond the familiar\, through the impossible\, and into the extraordinary. \n  \n\n  \nRecital Program\n \n\n\n\n In Stone\n       A Doubling\n       Ghosts Beneath my Fingertips ( for Viva)\n       “We are Stardust”\n \n\n Eve Egoyan\n \n \n\n \n\n\n Eve Egoyan\n In Stone\n       A Doubling\n       Ghosts Beneath my Fingertips ( for Viva)\n       “We are Stardust”\n \n\n  \n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n \nEve Egoyan is a celebrated Armenian-Canadian pianist born in Victoria. SUMMARY:Baroque Trio Sonatas for Spring
DESCRIPTION:Harpsichordist extraordinaire\, Alexander Weimann\, is joined by violinists\, Chloe and Christi Meyers\, in a program of Baroque trio sonatas from the 17th and 18th centuries. Music for a spring afternoon that will uplift\, inspire and delight you.\n  \n\n  \nProgram TBA\n  \n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n \nChloe Meyers has been playing violin her whole life. She grew up playing in a string trio with her siblings and was frequently accompanied by her mother. That music was the second language in her early years solidified her career choice early on until in university\, Chloe became fascinated by the sound of the period instruments\, and changed from a career of “modern” violin\, to “baroque specialist”\, an about-face in the world of music! \nChloe has played with many different ensembles and orchestras all over Canada and the US and in many varied positions\, most often now as leader or concertmaster. She is concertmaster of the Pacific Baroque Orchestra in Vancouver\, the affiliate group of Early Music Vancouver and principal\nsecond of the Seattle Bach Festival Orchestra in Seattle. \nChloe’s current passion is teaching – she is on faculty at both UBC and UVic\, and an integral part of the BOMP (Baroque Orchestra Mentorship Program) that exposes the next generation of players and singers to the art of early music performance practice.\n  \n\n \nThe internationally renowned keyboard artist Alexander Weimann has spent his life enveloped by the therapeutic power and beauty of making music. \nAlex grew up in Munich. At age three he became fascinated by the intense magic of the church organ. He started piano at six\, formal organ lessons at 12 and harpsichord at university (along with theatre theory\, medieval Latin and jazz piano.) \nToday he is in huge demand as a director\, soloist and chamber player\, traveling the world with leading North American and European ensembles. He is Artistic Director of the Pacific Baroque Orchestra in Vancouver and has appeared on more than 100 recordings\, including the Juno-award-winning album “Prima Donna” with Karina Gauvin and Arion Baroque orchestra. Alex offers master classes at European and North American universities and is on faculty at the University of British Columbia. \nMore than anything\, he loves to improvise – something\, he says\, humans do all the time\, just by making conversation.\n  \n\n \nChristi Meyers is an accomplished modern and baroque violinist who has been an active part of Victoria’s music scene since 2001. She was Assistant Concertmaster of the Victoria Symphony for 24 years and continues to perform with Victoria Baroque\, Pacific Baroque Orchestra\, Seattle Bach Festival Orchestra\, Early Music Vancouver\, and as the first violinist of the Odyssey String Quartet. \nChristi has toured internationally and played with artists from Yo-Yo Ma to Pavarotti. A dedicatededucator\, she has been on faculty at UVic\, maintains a small studio of young violinists\, and is the Artistic Director of the Esquimalt based chamber music series\, Township Classics. Seeking to use her music skills more purposefully in her midlife\, she is currently in the midst of Music Therapy degree studies at Capilano University in North Vancouver.
